QA Engineer
Assignment description
Our Customer is looking for a mid-level QA Engineer (not senior) to join them on a part-time (50%) basis, with a strong focus on test automation combined with hands-on manual testing.
You’ll be part of an ongoing test transformation journey. Today, much of their coverage lives in RSpec, Capybara, and Vitest, while Playwright is an important and growing part of their future E2E strategy.
What You’ll Work With:
– A mix of automation and manual testing, depending on risk, value, and maturity
– RSpec (core backend test framework) and Capybara
– Playwright for E2E testing (important and expanding)
– Vitest & React Testing Library for frontend and component tests
– Ruby on Rails backend and React + TypeScript frontend
– CI/CD pipelines (Buildkite today, GitHub Actions planned)
About the team
The development team consists of five developers, one Automation Quality Assurance (QQA) engineer, and two Product Owners. The development process has been heavily iterative, with continuous improvements on the existing platform. Currently, QA efforts are in a transformation phase, based on user stories and functional testing.
Must haves
– 3–5 years experience in software QA
– Experience with automated testing, plus manual regression and exploratory testing
– Experience with RSpec, or a similar test framework and willingness to learn RSpec
– Experience with Playwright or similar E2E tools
– Understanding of the testing pyramid
– Comfortable reading and working with existing test suites (RSpec, Capybara, Vitest)
– Experience testing REST APIs
– Comfortable working in cross-functional, agile teams
Nice to Have
– Visual regression testing (e.g. Playwright snapshots)
– Experience with UI- or pixel-sensitive applications
Other requirements
– Process-oriented mindset, capable of designing and refining workflows for maximum efficiency.
– Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coach a team and guide them towards autonomy.
– Agility and flexibility, as Our Customers is transitioning to commercial systems while maintaining its in-house solutions.
– Comfortable working in a part-time arrangement
About the customer
Our Customer is a growing company specializing in customized signage solutions. Founded in 2008, they have developed their own e-commerce and production-related software in Ruby on Rails, which has scaled significantly over the years. The company is now transitioning towards commercial enterprise solutions, beginning with an ERP implementation, followed by potential upgrades to CMS, CRM, and e-commerce platforms. Our Customer aims to improve operational agility and efficiency through better automation and optimized workflows.
